Benissa is situated in the heart of the "Marina Alta". This is 275 m above sea-level which amazes visitors all the time. There is the original town of Benissa and the coast of Benissa (Benissa Playa). The original town of Benissa is 9 km from the coast. It is like travel back in time: old lanes, 100 years old walls, arabic history, old shields, ancient buildings etc. It is real pleasure to walk through the historical center of Benissa. This place is very well preserved and presents its medieval character and attractions. Another sight of the town is the great cathedral, called " Cathedral de las Marinas". Benissa is surrounded by fantastic mountainous scenery like the "Bernia" mountain-range. Moving on to the coast now there is a 4 km long coastline of charming and picturesque coves with clear and sheltered water. A promenade has been added, carefully blending it in with its natural surroundings. The beaches are mostly small coves with sand or pebble. A paradise for snorkeling and surfing. All friends of water sports will find ideal conditions for windsurfing, canoeing, sailing, diving, water-and jetskiing, and under water photography etc. It is possible to hire equipment from the local "Nautic Club".
