Following the coastline south, you reach the community of "La Marina". The "Peñon de Ifach", the great rock and landmark of the Costa Blanca dominates this area. It is of volcanic origin and rises directly from the sea to a height of 332 metres. It seems unconquerable but through a short tunnel, built in 1918, it is easy to reach the summit from sea level.. Now you have a fantastic view and can even see Ibiza. This is also a nature reserve and offers ideal conditions for rare plants and numerous seabirds. Returning from the rock you immediately reach the busy port where you can eat the best fish in town. To the left and right of the port there are long sandy beaches - ideal for families. There is a pleasant promenade lined by cafés and restaurants. It is possible to rent pedal boats, beach chairs, surfboards and everything you need for your beach holiday. Calpe is a wonderful place for all sorts of watersport like sailing, jetsking and diving. Very interesting for divers are some underwater-caves. In the centre of Calpe typical Mediterranean buildings are interlinked with modern architecture. The wonderful old town with little lanes and stairs is surrounded by well preserved medieval walls. Also recommended is a visit to the old church of the 14.th century, the archaeological museum or the arrival of the fishing boats and the daily fish auction from the Mirador de la Lonja in the port which will be a highlight.
